Boulder's Road to victory a tasty ride
The fourth annual Road to Victory Bicycle Classic, benefiting the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's, takes place on Sunday morning, and it might be the swankiest charity ride in town.
The 40- and 60-mile ride options include a gourmet aid-station and a chance to rub elbows with cycling celebrities.
"We have Gov. Bill Ritter, of course Davis Phinney, Andy Hampsten, Hugh Walton, the Canadian national champion, Marianne Martin, the first U.S. person to win the Tour de France," said ride director Marcus Berggren, adding that a few others might be there but haven't confirmed their participation.
About eight miles into the course, riders can stop at Colterra in Niwot for breakfast and coffee.
The ride begins and ends at Boulder Beer Company, which will have a live band. Bacaro is providing the post-ride three-course lunch there.
"We've tried to build up the course to be first class," Berggren said.
Berggren said they're trying to focus more on the fundraising this year. The Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's -- which started in 2003 with the help of Boulder resident and cycling legend Davis Phinney -- supports both Parkinson's Disease research and programs that immediately help people living with the disease have better quality of life.
